Role of FLA in Restructuring the Forest Sector

Forest land allocation (FLA) is one of Viet Nam’s most vital policies in the process of restructuring its forest sector. However, the contribution of FLA policies to better forest quality is unclear, leading to unequity and conflicts in forest land management. This difficulty was discussed by participants at the workshop “The Role of FLA in Restructuring the Forest Sector," held by Tropenbos International Viet Nam, Forest Trends and the Sustainable Forest Management Institute in Ha Noi on April 16, 2014.

Charting the future of rubber

To promote discussion of the Vietnamese rubber sector’s rapid development, TBI Viet Nam organized the “Forestland conversion to rubber plantation: opportunities and challenges” workshop in Hanoi on 27 September. Promoting agarwood-based agroforestry systems in north central provinces of Viet Nam

Agarwood trees (Aquilaria crassna) are commonly used as sources for wood chips, incense and essential oils that need further promotion within agroforestry systems in Viet Nam. They are naturally distributed in the central highlands, north central and the southeastern areas and planted in the north central area, particularly from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue provinces.
